Donald Trump Mispronounces 'Nevada'—In Nevada—While Insisting He's Saying it Correctly

At a rally in Reno, Donald Trump repeatedly mispronounced the name of the state, while insisting he was correct.

Donald Trump has had hisshare of gaffes in recent weeks, and he added to the tally on Wednesday night. At a rally in Reno, Nevada, the GOP candidate went off-script for a moment to talk about how to pronounce the state in which he found himself. He said the name with an "aah" sound.

"You know what I said?" he asked the crowd. "I said when I came out here, I said, nobody says it the other way. It has to be 'Nevaahda,' right. And if you don’t say it correctly, and it didn’t happen to me but it happened to a friend of mine. He was killed."

The problem? "Nevada" is actually pronounced with a short "a" sound, like the word "cat." For proof, you can watch this 2008 story from NBC News, where they talk to the state's official archivist. Or, you know, just talk to anybody who lives there.

Donald Trump is not the only political figure to mispronounce the state's name. George W. Bush, Michelle Obama, and John McCain have all gotten it wrong in the past. But it's safe to say that Trump is the only politician who was so insistent on saying it wrong while thinking it correct, even when faced with an audience of people who were, as you can hear in the video above, less than enthusiastic about his pronunciation.

Harry Reid, the Senator from Nev-AD-a, took to Twitter to get at Trump about the gaffe.
