Police Mistook a Mannequin for a Woman 'Frozen to Death' in Parked Car

Police reportedly mistook a mannequin for a real life human Friday after receiving a report that an elderly woman was "frozen to death" in a parked car, reports the Times Union of Albany. Police in Hudson, New York received an early morning call from a concerned citizen described as being “very upset” over their discovery.

After rushing to the scene, police officers, along with the Greenport Rescue Squad, discovered a woman sitting motionless in the passenger sear of a Subaru that had been covered in snow. Not helping matters was the oxygen mask she was wearing, which seemingly indicated that she had prior heath issues.

In an attempt to save the woman, police had no choice but to break the passenger window. That’s when they discovered that she was in fact a mannequin realistic enough to make even Westworld’s Doctor Ford proud.

Despite their good intentions, the owner of the vehicle—who said he uses the mannequin to sell medical equipment—was “incredulous” that police smashed his car’s window, Chief L. Edward Moore said in a press release. "He apparently was quite vocal and vulgar to my sergeant.”

Despite the misunderstanding, the chief did not back down from the actions of his officers, who were operating under the best of intentions. “Just to clear the record, all citizens of Hudson should be put on notice that if you park your locked vehicle on the street on a sub-zero night with a life size realistic mannequin seated in it ... we will break your window.”
