The Caddy master at Maidstone Club in East Hampton, New York, was found dead on the porch of a coworker’s house after being choked to death following a drunken argument.

Page Six reports Kevin Somers, 45, was killed by fellow Maidstone employee Marc Dern, 34, on Feb. 5. Police say the two were drinking and watching a golf tournament at Dern’s residence when a violent altercation between them ensued, with Dern violently punching Somers in the face and placing him in a headlock.

Prosecutor Kelliann Kelly told the Southhampton Press that Dern had “broken Somers’s hyoid bone, a small bone in the throat, effectively asphyxiating him, and that he had told police when questioned that he felt his friend’s body go limp.” Police claim that Dern had left Somers on the porch for about three hours before calling emergency services.

Dern was arrested by Suffolk County Police on Thursday, and has been charged with one felony count of manslaughter in the first degree. A Southhampton Town judge has set a cash bail of $500,000, or a $1 million bond, for Dern.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for a scholarship in Somers name.

“In honor of Kevin Somers’ life, this site has been created to continue his legacy of sporting excellence for local student-athletes,” the GoFundMe states. “All who knew Kevin were aware of his enthusiasm, compassion, dedication, and generosity towards family, friends, and community. In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting a donation to The Kevin Somers Scholarship fund.”
