Per the organization’s website, the 16th annual Hood-Nic Car Show was sponsored by the Delta Neighborhood Empowerment Youth Organization, which runs the community event to raise funds for scholarships and school supplies.

As reported by NBC News, the Hoodnic Foundation took to its Facebook page to say that it was “heartbroken and in shock at what took place during tonight’s car show.”

Meanwhile, the group’s director, Wallace McGehee, told local news station KARK that he witnessed the shooting and tried to make sure the kids in attendance were safe.

“Getting down, trying to get kids out the way, that was the main issue for all of us,” McGehee said. “Send ya’ll prayers, send y’all condolences.”
