Two North Carolina men arrested in Miami Beach are being accused of drugging and raping a 24-year-old woman who died in her hotel room.

Police say that Evoire Collier, 21, and Dorian Taylor, 24, met the woman at a restaurant and gave her a green pill. Investigators are looking to see if the woman died of an overdose from the pill they gave to her. The two men also reportedly stole the woman’s credit cards and phone before she was found dead in the hotel. WBT News reported that police identified the woman as Christine Englehardt.

The Miami-Dade Medical Examiner’s Office said tests were still being conducted on Monday. A cause of death has not yet been determined. The arrests were two of over 1,000 in Miami Beach, including over 400 felony charges, during spring break gatherings over the last six weeks.

This past Saturday, police used pepper-spray balls and SWAT teams to disperse crowds who were out past the city’s current 8 p.m. curfew. In response, some local Black leaders are saying that the forceful police response was racially motivated, and that a response of that nature wouldn’t happen if it were a predominantly white crowd in Miami.

Miami Beach Police Chief Richard Clements told the Miami Herald that the incident would be reviewed internally.
