Trump Tower Residents Are Pissed That Increased Security is Making Uber, Deliveries Tougher

President Donald Trump is currently living alone in the White House. Though his family will eventually join him, for now his wife Melania and youngest son Barron are still staying at Trump Tower on 5th Avenue.

The enhanced safety and “cool factor” that comes along with being neighbors of the president’s family comes with downsides, too. Security and crowds have been more prevalent around the Tower since Trump was inaugurated last week.

That might sound ridiculous, but think of this: now it’s hard to grab an Uber.

"It's a luxury building, and if you have a car service come pick you up and it's pouring rain, and you have security checkpoints, you're looking at walking around the block," said Jonathan Miller, president of Miller Samuel real estate, according to Bloomberg. "You're adding this complication for day-to-day accessibility."

Bloomberg reports dry-cleaning and food deliveries have been complicated by the heightened security, too. That means you aren’t getting Seamless or Grubhub if you live in Trump Tower.

Joseph George Jr., a broker with Vision Realty Co., said he has gotten more calls to look at the apartment he’s selling in the tower since Trump’s emergence, including calls from people who don’t seem very serious about buying.

“The questions they ask you—you can tell if this is a voyeuristic showing rather than a real showing,” George told Bloomberg. “People ask, ‘Is he on the elevator?’ Questions where you can kind of tell they’re not serious.”

In case you’re wondering: you can get a one-bedroom apartment in the Manhattan tower for a reasonable $5,250 a month. There are some perks that come along with living at Trump Tower, to make up for the lack of reliable deliveries: valet car service, maid service, and sharing a home address with the president’s family.
