Once Chick-Fil-A started to venture out of the South, it put the chicken sandwich game in a chokehold. Yet this month, Popeyes decided to get into the field by re-rocking Chick-Fil-A's signature chicken sandwich to create a version that mirrors the competition. Popeyes even copied the folded, aluminum lined bag Chick-Fil-A uses to keep its sandwiches hot.
The hype of this direct competition has prompted people to flock to their nearest Popeye's to see if it's as good as Chick-Fil-A. To the surprise of many customers, Popeyes chicken sandwich wasn't a poorly put together knockoff, and it's cheaper than the Chick-Fil-A sandwich at some locations.
This forced Chick-Fil-A to send shots at the chain while maintaining its nice, Christian image.
That subtweet was the first shot in this unofficial chicken conflict as Popeyes responded.
Now people are picking sides between the two fast food chains.
With all the attention surrounding this sandwich squabble, Zaxby's is probably crying in a corner for failing to see how profitable non-regional chicken can be. Bojangles' Famous Chicken 'n Biscuits also got into the mix with a tweet plugging their chicken sandwich.
