Supreme’s upcoming drop this Thursday will celebrate one of the most important independent hip-hop labels. Duck Down Records is spotlighted in Supreme’s latest collaboration, a New York City-based record label founded by “Dru-Ha” Friedman and Kenyatta “Buckshot” Blake in 1995. Buckshot and Dru-Ha originally launched Duck Down Records to manage the rap duo Smif-N-Wessun and Buckshot’s own group, Black Moon. Duck Down Records came about shortly after both these artists released their classic albums Enta Da Stage and Dah Shinin, which will appear on two T-shirts within this collaboration. Duck Down Records’ iconic mascot became synonymous with a new vanguard of underground East Coast rap during the late 1990s and early-2000 by representing artists like Heltah Skeltah and the rap supergroup Boot Camp Clik. To this day, the late Sean Price remains to be one of the most impactful and influential MCs to sprout from the Brooklyn-born record label. Alongside this collaboration, Supreme will also release pairs of checkered Old Skool Vans bedazzled with Swarovski crystals.
