With no warning whatsoever, John Elliott unveiled his Spring/Summer 2018 collection Friday on Instagram. The 24-piece Field Manual collection debuted via a series of Instagram posts from Elliott-approved models, artists, and athletes.
Stylist and model Luka Sabbat gave the first look at the collection Friday, telling his 460,000 followers in the caption to head over to Josephine Skriver's page for the next unveiling. Subsequent looks were premiered by ASAP Mob member ASAP Nast, Adonis Bosso, Nick Young, and more within minutes.
"Our motivation coming to Paris was widely a business decision," Elliott said of his decision to debut the collection on Instagram. "We wanted to come here and present the collection to the industry in an intimate way but reinvent the way we present and involve the consumer with the debut of a new season. We don't only want the world to see and experience the collection in a way that is engaging and interactive, but it was also important for us to see our clothes styled on some of our friends we look to for inspiration."
Field Manual also draws inspiration from Elliott's recent trips to Joshua Tree National Park, Death Valley, and the Mojave Desert. "The tones and colors reminded my girlfriend and I of summers growing up—we'd leave out t-shirts out in the sun for hours and when we ended up throwing them back on, they'd be a pale, washed out version of before taking them off," Elliott explained. "We both knew I had to adapt that into the collection."
Field Manuel is a varied collection ranging from washed corduroy thumper jackets to tie-dyed tech pieces. Check out all 24 looks below.
