Nike and Patta have unveiled the second installment of their four-part film series, The Wave—all of which were dircted by Mahaneela, with creative direction from Steve McQueen.

New film Loud & Clear arrives shortly after Nike and Patta’s highly anticipated Air Max 1 collab. Inspired by the authentic connection between the Amsterdam-based imprint and the Air Max community, the latest collaboration draws from the original Air Max 1 silhouette and adds a twist through a new wave pattern and mini Swoosh on the mudguard, while Patta’s logo appears on the tongue and sock liner.

To bring the release to life, Mahaneela and McQuen have produced four short films, which follow siblings Abdul and Carista as they explore the themes of freedom, creativity, and truth within the Patta community, through cultural landscapes like style, music, fashion, and sport.

In the second chapter, viewers are introduced to Carista, a DJ producer and older sister of Abdul. The film follows the protagonist on her typical day in the life, with cameos from Lil C, Savannah Stacey Keenan, Steven Julien aka Funkineven, Patta founders Guillaume Schmidt & Edson Sabajo, and Martine Rose.

“Since I started making films and photography, my work has always been about finding ways to show love to people that look like me,” says London-born Mahaneela, who has worked with the likes of FKA twigs and Kojey Radical and whose ideas are informed by her roots in Jamaica, Ghana, and India. “Patta are a great example of how creativity can manifest into authentic relationships and give back to the people and places we are from. For many young Black and Brown filmmakers, Steve McQueen and his legacy have been somewhat of a north star for us. To be able to collaborate with him on this project, which for me is a love letter to my fellow creatives of colour, has been unforgettable.”

Steve McQueen added: “I’m proud to be working with Nike and Patta—a Black-owned company who have always been about supporting interesting Black talent, in bringing new emerging voices like Mahaneela to the broader wider public for this exciting collaboration.”
