Based out of New Delhi, India, emerging label KARDO is an artisanal menswear design studio that keeps things close to home.
The brainchild of Londoner Rikki Kher, the imprint seeks to acknowledge the cultural heritage of the homeland, and applies this to each of its modern and striking silhouettes.
For its SS23 lookbook, KARDO has chosen to pay homage to the various hands and people that have supported the brand throughout its nine year journey, from textile artisans, tailors and agents, to buyers, stores and its loyal customers. Referencing the traditional gesture of tying thread around the wrist as a symbol of unity and protection, the collection is brought to life through reimagined classics and planet-friendly printing techniques that allow KARDO’s community to work and earn a living while respecting their environment.
Taking on contemporary menswear archetypes, arguably the standout pieces are the brand’s signature shirts detailed with patchwork prints, as well as hand-embroidered motifs. Joining these are updated workwear jackets, co-ords and printed shorts, made from natural-dyed cotton in indigo and mudder in a palette that pays homage to the planet.
