Drake’s Pre-Show Fits in New York City Are the Perfect Opening Act

Now, we don’t exactly recommend you spending money on a rubber dog mask to wear casually. But hey, it was certainly a greta bit of playful marketing for his looming project For All the Dogs. Drake stepped out of his hotel on this particular night in a dog mask usually reserved for Halloween costumes. Personally, this Philadelphia resident thinks that Lane Johnson and the 2017 Philadelphia Eagles did the prop more justice, but credit to Drake for really leaning into the theme of his latest album. 

He paired the mask with a vintage Yankees batting practice jersey. We’d usually recommend some pinstripes if you’re going to rep the Yanks, or just a classic fitted hat to be more subtle, but the navy blue BP jerseys are still a solid option that’s also a bit cheaper. The one linked above isn’t the exact one he wore, but why not show some love to Yankees legend Derek Jeter? If you ask us, it’s better anyway. Finish it off with some gray sweats and a wine glass for your beverage of choice. Some tequila mixed with passion fruit juice (if you’re of age, of course), perhaps? It’s classier than a red Solo cup, but strolling around with a mixed drink probably isn’t the best idea. Maybe just some water will do.

A bit more family friendly than the Vaffanculo gear from Italy he rocks more frequently (vaffanculo is an Italian word that translates to “fuck you”), Drake stepped out in the streets of Manhattan repping Italy ahead of one of his shows at the Barclays Center. Channeling every Italian dad’s wardrobe in the tristate area, he kept things classic with a blue Italia tracksuit. Perhaps he ended the night with a meal at Carbone? Or just rewatched some Sopranos? Either way, I’m sure his Italian fans appreciated this one. If you happen to be vacationing in Italy this summer, this track jacket is probably available in literally every souvenir shop you walk by at an affordable price. If you aren’t as lucky to travel to the beautiful country, opt for an official track jacket of the Italian national soccer team from Adidas. Yes, we know Drake has a line with Nike. You don’t. This one will suffice.

Drake won’t even entertain the idea that you don’t know who Lil Wayne is. Just ask Bobbi Althoff. And although he’s become a mega star now, you can’t forget about Drake’s early days with Young Money. Drake still shows plenty of love to Lil Wayne, the man who signed him back in the late 2000s to kickstart his legendary rap career. Here, it’s with a vintage T-shirt from The Carter III era. Yes, that’s considered vintage now. We feel old too. The rest of Drake’s fit was calm, some black sweats sitting over a pair of what looked to be “Black Cat” Air Jordan 4s.

We’re going to go out on a limb and say Drake isn’t wearing a Leon Neal Washington Huskies jersey from 1995 because he grew up cheering for the running back on Saturdays. It’s probably just another subtle nod to For All the Dogs. Washington's mascot is a Husky. Get it? He paired it with a bulldog mask. You get the idea. Anyway, this jersey isn’t exactly easy to come by, but there’s plenty of vintage alternatives on eBay. As for the bottoms, some camo cargos are always in style. And the best part is you don’t need to break the bank for a good pair. Once again, don’t try to do this dog mask thing. However, it could make for a good Halloween costume in a few months.

One of the funnier sports references made by Drake with his hotel fits, intentional or not, was his shoutout to Reggie Miller. Reggie Miller was a notorious enemy of Spike Lee and the rest of the loyal Knicks fanbase throughout the ‘90s, so hitting the street in a Miller throwback certainly feels calculated. You could stumble upon one of these Champion throwbacks on eBay fairly easily. The rest of this fit is easy. Just grab some Levi’s 501s and a crispy pair of white Air Force 1s. You probably have these anyway, but it’s always good to keep a fresh pair of white on whites in the closet.
