Menswear trends come and go, but some we wish would leave faster than others. In an Internet culture that allows style choices to spread like wildfire to every dude who likes to get crispy, trends often get beaten to death before they even get the chance to shine. But that doesn't stop guys from wearing the proverbial dead horses all across their backs.
We can't stress enough that personal style shall always remain superior to trends. Yes, they're definitely intertwined with one another. And sometimes, the two are hard to differentiate. But if you're sick and tired of the menswear dudes who resemble sartorial lemmings following each other off cliffs to their crispy deaths, then forward this their way. These are 10 Menswear Trends That Need to Go Away.

Bolos
You don't live in Montana and have never successfully rustled cattle. This means you have zero right to wear a bolo. We get it, it's like wearing a tie, but not as obvious. But if you want to channel your inner cowboy, you should be wearing Western shirts, Levi's 501s, and lined trucker jackets.
Hyper-Dapper Gentlemen
Unfortunately, a half-decade of telling guys to dress better has resulted in too many people thinking they need to be as dapper as possible. You've seen these guys before. They're the one with the white oxford shirt, slim tie (always with a tie bar), their sleeves rolled up, and piling on the accessories. He may even be wearing a bow tie. It's not that they like any of these things, but but wear it because they were told that's how a real man looks.
Ridiculous Collaborations on Meaningless Items
Have you ever bought a luxe dopp kit? Like, really shelled out cash on one. If you have, then you probably don't have to worry about petty things like monthly budgets and eating. It's a simple item: You put your shaving gear in it. There's no need for three different brands to come together to bring you the shaving gear-carrier of your dreams.
Becoming a Sneakerhead Just Because
Sneakers have seen a huge resurgence, and even #menswear fans are getting in on the act. We don't think that everyone needs to become a huge sneakerhead again like it's 2006, but if you don't know or care about sneakers, you don't know or care about sneakers. There's no shame in that, just don't go around with the "my kicks are shutting your shit down" mentality. Just cop a couple pairs and be on your way.
Getting way too sprezzy for your own good.
At some point over the past couple years, guys decided they wanted to be Italian. They started wear white jeans, no socks, unstructured sportcoats, and only walked in cobblestoned streets leisurely smoking cigarettes. This seemed like the most swagged out shit for a moment, but now when you see anyone who lives like they're about that Pitti Uomo life 24/7, it becomes too much to bear.
Idolizing all of the same style icons.
Steve McQueen and Paul Newman both lived awesome lives and were super stylish, but they're not the only cool dudes ever to walk the face of the earth. Get off their nuts a little bit. There are plenty of sartorial heroes out there for you to discover and take inspiration from, you shouldn't stick to the same couple guys that everyone else already worships. We're not saying that you can't get with Bullitt or Cool Hand Luke, just don't make it so obvious to everyone else.
Uneven Ties
Let's face it: Wearing a tie sucks. You're not going to make it cooler by tying the tail of the tie a touch (or a lot) longer. We can't imagine this trend flying at your shitty office job. Do us all a favor—if you have to wear a tie, just wear it in a classic manner. Don't try to get all creative and quirky with how you knot it up.
Jumping in Suits
Flip through any lookbook or menswear publication these days and you'll see guys in full #menswear 'fits flying through the air. We're not against suits, but we don't need to see their aerodynamic properties. Just remember that temporary flight doesn't equal fly.
Double Breasted Jackets
Double breasted jackets were the tits a couple years ago. Then they become associated with a typical #menswear bro who was essentially wearing a Humphrey Bogart costume. The problem is, no one looks this great in one, and the DB blazer has become a signifying sign of a dude that's trying too hard to stunt. Like wide-brimmed hats and non-tapered trousers, double breasted blazers are something that'll look dope when you're old. Until then, leave them alone.
Cheap Selvedge Denim
We're pretty much believers in the superiority of selvedge denim, and most stylish dudes are willing to pay the premium for the red-lined shit. However, companies have figured out how to make imposter selvedge denim by selling a dark-wash product and taping a fake selvedge hem on the jeans.
There are also brands you make shitty denim but put a real selvage hem on them. The jeans equally suck. You won't accrue cool fades or have a pair of jeans that will last you forever. But you'll be able to flash your selvedge hem to everyone, and make them believe you spent mad dough on your jeans. This is the epitome of caring about trends over style, and anyone who cares more about how other perceive them instead of how they express themselves will buy into this imitation garbage.
