Release Date: June 4

Where to Buy It: dobetter.nyc

Price: $65-$100

Let’s Do Better is a collective effort that seeks to end racism against Black people in America by creating empathy through creative storytelling products that educate and bring awareness to the Black experience in America. The brand has recently launched collaborative products with Lichen Home Goods and Book Works which have raised funds for The Carter Center for K-12 Black History and Brooklyn’s Benjamin Banneker High-School Music Department. Its latest project is the “Learn to Swim Campaign,” which seeks to address the historical lack of access to swimming within Black communities. Recent data shows that 64% of African Americans have little to no swimming ability and that Black children drown at three times the rate of white children. For the campaign, Let’s Do Better teamed up with the swimwear brand Everest Isles on a capsule that will donate all proceeds to provide free swimming lessons for underprivileged Black youth at Bed Stuy’s YMCA this summer. The capsule features a pair of swim trunks made out of recycled nylon in a colorway inspired by the Pan-African flag. The brand’s long sleeve features a graphic inspired by an actual 1930’s Works Progress Administration poster. The original poster seperated Black and white children and depicts the segregation that existed in public New York City pools at the time. Let’s Do Better updated the graphics on the poster by integrating the once segregated group of swimmers present in the original poster.
