"GAY" Show Examines Cultural Shift in Gay Identity Over Past Decade

Curator Ivan Monforte selects works by gay men of color that embrace, de-construct, and celebrate the gay label.

"GAY," a new show that examines the cultural shift in identity that has taken place over the past decade, will be exhibited at the Bronx Council on the Arts Feb. 5 through May 7, 2014. To examine this topic, curator Ivan Monforte reviewed the productions of gay male artists of color from 2003-2013. Monforte selected a number of pieces including sculptures, videos, drawings, paintings, performance art, and text, which, as a whole, embrace, de-construct, and celebrate gay identity.

The showcase will feature work by David Antonio Cruz, Cacy ForgenieJose Joaquin Figueroa, Lawrence Graham-Brown,Imani Henry, Rafael Melendez,Lucas Michael,Troy Michie, Netza Moreno,Twiggy Pucci Garçon,Jacolby Satterwhite,Rob Vassilarakis, Charlie Vázquez, Antonio Vicenty,Dorian Wood, and many others.
