Last night President Barack Obama faced off against Republican presidential nominee, Mitt Romney, for the first of three nationally televised debates. The event was moderated by PBS's Jim Lehrer and featured moments of what to expect from each of the candidates leading up to November's general election. Following the assembly at the University of Denver, several data polls indicated that Romney had swept the first debate, giving the Massachusetts governor an instant boost in approval ratings.

However, Romney's brief moment of success is perhaps overshadowed by comments he made proposing federal budget cuts to any programing he considers non-essential, making an immediate example of the Public Broadcasting System, the same organization that employees debate moderator Jim Lehrer and provides quality educational programing to children for over 30-years

"I'm sorry Jim. I'm gonna stop the subsidy to PBS. I'm gonna stop other things," Romney said. "I like PBS, I like Big Bird, I actually like you too. But I'm not going to keep on spending money on things to borrow money from China to pay for it."

As you could imagine, the Internet was instantaneous in support of PBS and their longtime feathered friend from Sesame Street.
