Hedi Slimane’s infatuation with musicians is contagious. Though primarily known as the creative director of Saint Laurent, the 46-year-old designer is also an accomplished photographer who specializes in captivating and intimate portraits of famous singers.
This week, the Fondation Pierre Bergé – Yves Saint Laurent will showcase Slimane's photography in an exhibit titled “Sonic,” which takes a look at the designer's musical archives spanning 15 years. Though we’ve seen his signature black-and-white photography in various Saint Laurent campaigns and projects, this show will include never-before-seen portraits of rock ‘n’ roll legends like Lou Reed and Keith Richards, as well as more contemporary stars like Amy Winehouse.
The photography exhibition will also be accompanied by a video installation that examines the contrast between the London music scene circa 2003-2007 and California’s music scene from 2007-present.
