On Wednesday, American designer Billy Reid presented his Spring/Summer 2016 collection as part of New York Fashion Week: Men’s. And, as expected, all his signature elements were presented: plenty of texture, lots of neutrals, and a big ol’ dose of Southern-tinged luxury. But for this upcoming range, Reid decided to take a turn to the softer side—consequently making the clothes much less fussy.
From oversized knits and quilted vests to knee-length shorts and pleated trousers, the offerings were noticeably much more relaxed than previous seasons. Down right baggy even; however, the use of soft lines and colors, paired with a range of killer fabrics, definitely helped retain the luxury vibe often seen his outputs. Textiles like suede, knotted terry, and cotton-silk were all presented in the collection, and were constructed with minimal tailoring for a more relaxed, effortless look. But the standout items for Spring/Summer 2016 were clearly the jacquard knits. Leaves, geometric shapes, and shell patterns were all featured on these items, but like the majority of the collection, there was an understated to ease to them—thanks to the loose fits and subtle color palette.
