Zaha Hadid Builds Heydar Aliyev Center in Azerbaijan

Zaha Hadid has been in the architecture spotlight recently. Just last month, she unveiled a futuristic design for a building along New York's High Line. She created an interactive light installation at the Danish Architecture Center. Also in July, she purchased the Design Museum in London for $12 million. Most recently, the architecture star has completed the Heydar Aliyev Center in Azerbaijan, named after the third president of the nation. The project was initiated in celebration of Heydar Aliyev, the "National Leader," and represents national pride, progress, unity, and democracy in Azerbaijan.

Using only curved lines, the cultural center expresses a sense of flowing unity that reminds us of calming waves. The rounded volumes include the Heydar Aliyev Museum, exhibition halls, and an auditorium, while outdoor landscaped areas feature an artificial lake. The center dedicates both its indoor and outdoor space to Azerbaijan history and culture.
