This season, Tommy Hilfiger took heavy inspiration from the Caribbean and Bob Marley. The designer's Spring/Summer 2016 presentation was an island-themed show at New York Fashion Week, with clear references to the musician and Rastafarian style.
Hilfiger chose to embody the Caribbean theme by sending models down the runway in crocheted bucket hats striped in black, red, yellow, and green, and long mesh vests and sundresses. One piece in the collection was printed with the words "Island Girl" and others with colorful knit lion and monkey graphics. As Vogue pointed out, one look featured a tracksuit that looked very similar to one Marley sported back in the '70s.
The set was also built with a boardwalk runway, surrounded by a lagoon, and a beach bar.
