Beats has proved to naysayers that it will maintain its company identity even after Apple's $3 billion acquisition of the company in May. With help from workplace consultants Loescher Meachem Architects, Los Angeles-based studio Bestor Architecture has completed a colorful, new headquarters for the recently acquired company in Culver City, Calif. that is an outright rebellion against Apple’s beloved all-white aesthetic.

In an interview with Fast Company, architect Barbara Bestor, known for her colorful, modern style of architecture, discussed how she incorporated her belief in office spaces that inspire creativity without sacrificing functionality into the new Beats headquarters. “Daytime disco is not a bad model for an office,” said Bestor. “With Beats, we created a variety of calculated environments within the larger workspace: peaceful, activated, or super-classy spaces and simple spaces or art school spaces.”

The design was completed this spring before Apple acquired Beats, and at 105,000 square feet, the new office accommodates a variety of work settings fit for three CEOs, four executives, and 650 employees across more than a dozen departments. Natural light flows through the building via windows and skylights. Blond wood was used to add a sense of warmth to many of the rooms, while bold colors add a splash of excitement to the campus. The actual interior of the two industrial buildings is complete with furniture lines from up-and-coming designers, as well as mounted photographs by Iwan Baan.
