Nike has been named the most valuable apparel brand in the world, according to the newly released BrandZ Most Valuable Global Brands list from advertising company Millward Brown.

The sportswear giant has come close to taking the top spot in lists like these before. Nike came in fourth on WWD's rundown of most profitable apparel companies, and Forbes' most valuable brands list put the Swoosh in second, just a couple spots after Louis Vuitton.

After being listed in the 34 slot last year, Nike is the 28th most valuable brand in the world now, according to Millward Brown. It leapfrogged Louis Vuitton, which ranked ahead of Nike last year, but now sits as the second most valuable apparel company at 32. The other clothing companies to make the top 100 include Zara, H&M, Hermès, and Gucci.

It's noteworthy that adidas, which has been making a huge push to compete with Nike, didn't make the cut. It did however appear on Millward Brown's list of the top 10 most valuable apparel companies. Adidas is seventh on that list, after companies like Uniqlo and Ralph Lauren.
