Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan is known for his "highly unconventional" approach to art that the New York Times says blends "Surrealist whimsy with a darkly comic view of life in the 21st century." The trailer above is for an upcoming documentary about Cattelan, directed by Maura Axelrod, that the Times says is the result of over a decade of filming. The documentary includes Cattelan's ambitious and also controversial 2011 Guggenheim retrospective that preceded his retirement at 51 years old.

The official website for the documentary simply states "Coming 2015" as the release date, and the Times confirms that it will drop in the summer. Of Cattelan's willingness to make the film, Axelrod says that "he’s not someone who was dying to have a documentary about him, and it took a long time to build his trust." Check out the trailer above, and stay tuned for more info about the interesting project.
