Engin Şukru Mehmet is a young Turkish designer from London, and the founder of upcoming brand DESEN-PROJE.
DESEN-PROJE (Turkish for 'Design Project') marks almost two years of research and sampling by Engin, culminating in the debut of his first menswear collection entitled 'Collection One'.
Labeling the brand a design project as opposed to a fashion label was a step Engin took to avoid boxing himself into one creative outlet, instead making the decision to let the brand evolve and grow as he does.
Collection One serves as a recreation of vintage garments sourced from family members, such as bomber jackets and oversized work shirts. Items within the collection were created with the purpose of serving as everyday essentials in a range of Italian cotton, silks, and leather with RiRi hardware. The use of high-quality materials in monochrome and earthy tones creates a concise range of modern, luxury streetwear.
Garments within the collection were initially born from an inability to find clothing that possessed the perfect fit. To combat this, Engin deconstructed and reconstructed his father's old clothes to fit his own styling. Patterns were then developed using old newspapers in the designer's bedroom and further developed to piece together the puzzle that has become DESEN-PROJE.
The full collection of cut-and-sew products are produced in the UK and will be made to order. Collection One will be available to purchase online via DESEN-PROJE with an official release set for early January 2018.
