The entertainment community has been speaking out in the wake of Kim Kardashian's terrifying armed robbery in Paris, and now her friend and Chanel's iconic creative director, Karl Largerfeld, has shared his opinion on the incident.
"You cannot display your wealth and then be surprised that some people want to share it with you," the designer told Reuters, according to NBC. "It's a very bad thing for Paris. But I don't understand why she was in a hotel with no security...If you are that famous and you put all your jewelry on [social media], you go to hotels where nobody can come near to the room."
It's a surprising remark considering Kardashian and Lagerfeld have both been very complimentary of each other in the past and even collaborated earlier in the year when he shot the Kardashian West's joint Harper's Bazaar cover. The legendary designer also made an appearance in the Kim Kardashian Hollywood mobile game.
Lagerfeld even shared a sweet and encouraging note to Kim over social media immediately following the robbery. "Dearest Kim We are all with you Love Karl," he wrote.
A few fans were not too pleased with Lagerfeld's recent comments and have been responding accordingly to the designer on Twitter, which you can check out below.
Saw Karl Lagerfeld trending & thought he died. Instead he's trending b/c he thinks if Kim Kardashian is less flashy she won't get robbed.— NUFF$AID (@nuffsaidNY) October 4, 2016
@KarlLagerfeld disappointed in your comments on Kim Ks robbery. No1 deserves to go through that. No matter how much they flaunt.— Dominic A. Gillette (@DominicGillette) October 4, 2016
Karl Lagerfeld critiquing Kim K on living lavishly is a joke. He's draped in Chanel every damn day and is nobody's definition of understated— Brooke Ashley (@TheBrookeAsh) October 4, 2016
