When it was announced that Raf Simons would take over as creative director for Dior in 2012 there was plenty of doubt over whether not he was capable of designing for the storied fashion house. Even worse, Simons had only eight weeks to design his first collection after the unceremonious exit of John Galliano. The scenario had all the makings of a hit movie, or at least a documentary.
We got a preview of the new documentary, Dior and I, written and directed by Frédéric Tcheng with Simons as its star early last year, but now we have the official trailer. The documentary looks to have all the plot points of a regular thriller: an unfinished collection the night before the show, dramatic bumps in the road, like a malfunctioning elevator, and an underdog protagonist in Simons. Even without the drama, the documentary will provide an unparalleled look into the hectic creation of the designer's first Haute Couture show for Dior.
The documentary will hit theaters in the U.S on April 10, and premiere in the UK as soon as March 16.
