Back in October 2014, artists Gerard & Kelly (Brennan Gerard and Ryan Kelly) began a six-month residency as a part of the New Museum's Fall 2014 R&D Season: CHOREOGRAPHY. The artists used the Fifth Floor gallery into "a space for fieldwork, movement practice, and interactive research," with mattresses, video stations, and practice poles used by the artists and the public in their "investigation into intimacy, relationships, and the movement of cultural transmission via vernaculars of pole dancing."

The residency will culminate with a two-week exhibition beginning on Feb. 4, titled "P.O.L.E.: (People, Objects, Language, Exchange)." Eight dancers (New York-based subway performers as well as exotic, fitness, and contemporary dancers) will pair-off and participate in "score-based performances" for the portion of the exhibition titled "Two Brothers."

On Feb. 5 and Feb. 12, during "Pay-What-You-Wish Thursdays" at the New Museum, subway dance crews Chosen Ones and We Live This will attend Gerard & Kelly's "Open Pole" sessions. Check out both crews below, and head to the New Museum website for more information on the P.O.L.E. exhibition and performances.
