With 2014 officially over, there's no better time to look back at the year that was in new clothing stores. The folks at Infinite Legroom have compiled a list of the best new shops to open last year and combine must-have threads with impeccable store design.

The list was topped by COS' New York City location, which after facing numerous delays, proved to be well worth the wait. The store's sleek and simple interior manages to capture the same minimalist aesthetic that make the clothes a favorite among stylish New Yorkers.

Aether's massive Los Angeles location equipped with a walk-in freezer to test out the activewear, Australian footwear brand Feit's first brick-and-mortar stateside in NYC, and Shinola's first west coast shop in L.A. were also included in the top five.

New York City had the best year for new clothing shops, according to the list. In addition to COS and Feit, the list includes new NYC locations from Westerlind, Boris Bidjan Saberi, and Will Leather Goods, which offers shoppers beer and candy.

Japan's COLONY 2139, Belgium's A.F. Vandevorst, and Toronto's Mutthonhead also earned shoutouts.
