#ArtSelfies have exploded on social media over the past couple years, causing some institutions to consider banning the practice during certain hours of the day to help those who actually want to experience the art with their own eyes. Recognizing the trend as an interesting part of the culture, New York-based collective DIS decided to create collect some of the photos and compiled them in a new book titled simply, #artselfie.

According to the New York Times, the "origins of the #artselfie hashtag can be traced back to a 2012 Frieze installation DIS created in collaboration with the artist Ryan Trecartin," so if anyone has the right to make this book it would be them. One visit to artselfie.com (a site that DIS launched in 2012) will show that this is not just a funny novelty project, but it is instead a serious exploration of the trend.

The book is available now via Jean Boîte Editions.
