No one has been checking Val Kilmer's IMDb for quite some time because, let's be honest, he hasn't been doing much that people actually cared about. Besides his voice work in Planes, Kilmer has stayed off the radar since his inexplicable film projects with 50 Cent, landing small screen roles in The Spoils of Babylon and one-off appearances in Robot Chicken and Psych. It's safe to say that the one true Batman has fallen from grace, but he may have a good reason for working less: Kilmer has been focusing on his art career.

1.

Those of you who follow Val on Twitter know that the actor has been selling his "God Block sculptures" art via social media. As the name suggests, the pieces are cubes that have been stenciled with the word "GOD" in various colors. He tweets photos of block towers and standalone blocks, some of which are even made of steel. Kilmer writes on his website that the pieces are limited editions and handpainted, with prices ranging from $500 to $1000 each. While you slept, people around the world have actually been copping the sculptures.

To us, Kilmer's work looks to be inspired by Andy Warhol's Brillo Boxes series. Painting a singular word onto a bunch of objects isn't exactly the same as Warhol's process of mimicking the brand's packaging with silkscreening, but the resemblance is there.

In addition to the cubes, Kilmer has also been selling t-shirts and hats with a modified version of the "LA" logo that he calls the "Valogo." It's unclear if he had a hand in designing the logo, but he does take design cred alongside someone named Liz Lake for a series of blankets, also for sale on his website with profits going to charity.

What do you think of Kilmer's efforts? Other actors have made the transition into creating art (see James Franco), but does Kilmer have what it takes? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
