Escape From Reality With These Op Art Tape Portals

A NYC native thinks his fellow New Yorkers work too hard.

New Yorkers are known for many things—one of which is an insane work ethic. NYC-based artist Aakash Nihalani thinks that this threatens to make his fellow New Yorkers too serious. “We all need the opportunity to see the city more playfully, as a world dominated by the interplay of very basic color and shape. I try to create a new space within the existing space of our everyday world for people to enter freely, and unexpectedly ‘disconnect’ from their reality,” he says.

Nihalani’s latest work employs neon tape to create an escape from the grind of everyday life. He uses the tape to construct vivid geometric forms all over the state that act as portals into worlds of creative refuge. His forms are isometric, bold, and impossible to ignore.
