Band: The Clash; The Mescaleros

The Sex Pistols may have pushed punk to its very brink, but Joe Strummer and The Clash were the ones who made punk rock stylish. Joe Strummer's classic cool harked back to classic American masculinity and the origins of rock. In leather jackets, torn-up tees, and decked out mainly in black, Strummer looked to the past to influence the generations to come—a tried a true formula for style success. The Clash became known as "The Only Band That Matters," and the same could be said of Strummer's steez.
