Hotel on Rivington
Architect: Grzywinski + Pons
Lower East Side
Hotels in upper Manhattan are a given when it comes to dope architecture, but downtown hotels offer a fresh take. The Hotel on Rivington is a glass tower that stands 21-stories high and exemplifies this new cool.

Architect Matthew Grzywinksi explains what influenced his decision to turn the roof of the hotel, also called The Sunset Lounge, into a glass-encased getaway in the sky: “We wanted to take these kind of earthy materials, wood, water and stone, and juxtapose them with the very practical and mechanical elements, of the building, and make you feel as if you were floating. Plus, the LES has amazing views, and we wanted to celebrate those views.”
