Usually associated with mailmen and crazy bike messengers, the messenger bag has crossed over from parcel delivery to becoming a popular alternative to the backpack. And why not—messenger bags (also called courier bags) offer the same toting ability as a backpack while offering easier access to your stuff while you're on the go. Really, who wants to swing a heavy backpack around your shoulders every time you have to take out a book or magazine on the train? So the function is there, but what about the form?
