Back in November, we reported that Mazda's new CEO didn't want to create a new rotary engine sportscar unless at least 100,000 of them could be sold per year. This is very unlikely to happen, and so it was said that the new RX was out of the cards.
According to Autocar, Mazda's chief designer, Ikuo Maeda, wants to see it on sale in 2016, and work is being done on an advanced design for the car. It would most likely be powered by a twin rotor Renesis engine making 250 to 300 horsepower in a very lightweight package.
We're intrigued.
