News Hounds: A History of Female Sports Reporters Getting Harassed

Sexual harassment at the workplace is never tolerated, but we all know that real-life rules don't apply in the world of sports. So it comes as little surprise to hear that Mexican reporter Ines Sianz was allegedly harassed by New York Jets players on a recent visit to their locker room. In response, the NFL sent out a league-wide memorandum about proper player-reporter protocol, but to paraphrase Clinton Portis' elegant commentary: When you put an attractive woman in the vicinity of adrenaline-pumped jocks (and rabid, drunk fans), fuckery is bound to happen. In light of the latest controversy, peep our history of female sports reporters being harassed by both athletes and fans...

Lisa Olson

Date: 9/17/1990

Harassed by: Zeke Mowatt, New England Patriots

Complex says: While attempting to interview players in the Patriots' locker room, Boston Globe reporter Lisa Olson was reportedly approached by tight end Zeke Mowatt, who stood naked before her and asked, "Is this what you want? Do you want to take a bite out of this?" Olson also said that two other naked players crowded around her, making lewd gestures. As a result, the team was fined for $50,000, Mowatt $12,000, and two other players $5,000. Patriots GM Pat Sullivan was also fired. Those Patriot missiles sure were destructive, yeah?

Suzy Kolber

Date: 12/20/2003

Harassed by: Joe Namath

Complex says: Afterward, Namath apologized for the incident and entered an alcoholism treatment program. Suzy's cute and all, but can you imagine how Broadway Joe would've reacted if he were being interviewed by this Jets' sideline hottie? Whoa.

Natalie Perks

Date: 2/4/2008

Harassed by: Aston Villa fan

Complex says: She handled that a little too well. Either that was Perks' loser boyfriend that she didn't want anyone to know about or shit like that is absolutely OK in the U.K. We'll test out the latter and get back to you...

Erin Andrews

Date: 2/23/2008

Harassed by: Bruce Pearl, Tennesse Vols head coach

Complex says: There's two things Pearl is successful at: coaching collegiate basketball and feeling up on hot blondes. Kids, some life skills are a lot more rewarding than others.

Erin Andrews (again)

Date: 1/1/2009

Harassed by: Rey Maualuga, USC Trojans

Complex says: During his last game as a Trojan, linebacker Rey Mauluaga went out with an attempted bang. Mauluaga would later apologize to Erin Andrews for the inapporpiate gesture. Pay-for-play scandals, suicide pranks, and this—was there any kind of fuckery USC wasn't getting into during the aughts?

Elena Etxebarrieta

Date: 3/7/2009

Harassed by: Athletic Bilbao Fan

Complex says: Unlike most exaggerated sex simulations, this dude went the hyper-realistic route. Well, now we all know what his O-face looks like.

Heather Nichols

Date: 7/10/2009

Harassed by: Quinton "Rampage" Jackson

Complex says: Though it seems staged at first, Nichols later said it wasn't and that she was quite uncomfortable at being relentlessly dry-humped by a hulking MMA fighter wearing a creepy smile. Go figure. This wasn't the first time the UFC fighter/terrible actor humped an unsuspecting journalist. Since dude is a repeat offender, shouldn't he be forced to stay at least 200 feet away from female reporters? We're just sayin'...

Kim Jones

Date: 5/26/2010

Harassed by: Yankees Fan

Complex says: YES Network's Kim Jones had her pork chop on a stick eaten by an eager Yankee fan at Target Field in Minnesota. Kim should've known, that kinda thing happens when you go around flaunting your meat like that. Pause.

Asma Halimi

Date: 6/23/2010

Harassed by: Rafik Saifi, Algeria

Complex says: No footage exists, but the player pictured above—Algerian national Rafik Saifi—open-hand slapped female reporter Asma Halimi following Algeria's 1-0 loss to the U.S. in the 2010 World Cup. FIFA recently fined Saifi 2,300 euros for the incident. And we thought Landycakes' face was the most bitchmade thing from that game...

Rachel Nichols

Date: 7/8/2010

Harassed by: Repulsive flabby dude

Complex says: A fan mock-licked the back of reporter Rachel Nichols' head while she was reporting on the LeBron James decision outside MSG. Being the hot and classy professional that she is, Rachel was totally unfazed. Just thank heavens that dude didn't actually connect. Don't he look like the kind to eat out strippers?

Ines Sainz

Date: 9/11/2010

Harassed by: New York Jets players

Complex says: TV Azteca reporter Ines Sainz was allegedly the victim of catcalls and whistling from other Jets players while she was interviewing Mark Sanchez. The NFL is currently investigating the incident. Did you see Monday's game? The only Mexican who should be complaining about being violated is Mark Sanchez.
