Nur Suryani Mohamed Taibi will compete in the 10-meter air rifle event at the London Olympics. The impressive part of her participation lies not in her chances of winning, she is only 47th in the world, but in the fact that she will be nearly eight months pregnant during competition.
The New York Times story details the many hurdles she had to go through in order to be allowed to compete. It also includes this hilarious account of why one man thought she should compete:
"On a recent trip to the supermarket, she said, a man working at the store told her she walked 'like a gangster, not like a mum, so I believe you can do it.'”
