After Canada edged out a victory against Spain last Sunday at the 2023 FIBA World Cup, star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has his sights set on beating Slovenia in the quarter finals tomorrow.
Ahead of the much-anticipated game, Gilgeous-Alexander answered some questions about his matchup against Luka Dončić.
Christos Tsaltas of Sportal asked Gilgeous-Alexander what he made of the "duel" between himself and Dončić.
"No, it's a Canada versus Slovenia game," Gilgeous-Alexander answered with a smile. "I'm trying to do everything I can to win that game."
Tsaltas followed his question by asking the Toronto native what the team needed to do to win against Slovenia.
"We need to play to our identity," he said. "Play fast. Play aggressive defensively. Cut hard offensively. Share the ball. Just be the aggressors on both ends of the floor. If we do that we'll be all right."
Gilgeous-Alexander scored 30 points, grabbed 4 rebounds, dished out 7 assists, and recorded 7 steals against Spain on Sunday to take them to the quarter finals against the Dončić-led Slovenian team.
Canada is set to square off against Slovenia in Manila, Phillipines, tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. Eastern time.
