After Shai Gilgeous-Alexander dropped a game-high 31 points against Slovenia in the 2023 FIBA World Cup quarter-finals, Luka Dončić had some high praise to give his opponent.
"They have one of the best players in the world," Dončić said after the game referring to Gilgeous-Alexander. "It was really tough to guard him. "
Dončić made several highlight-worthy plays and scored 26 points on 40% shooting before getting ejected in the fourth quarter following his second technical foul.
The Slovenian star also praised Dillon Brooks for his tough defence and unwillingness to back down.
"I think Dillon played great, he was very physical like he always does," Doncic said. "A lot of people don't like him but I respect him for what he does and he does that stuff really good."
He also spoke about the referees and their non-calls on Brooks.
"The referees told to one of the guys: 'We're not gonna call a foul on [Brooks] because he's coming at us.' I think this is not fair. I know I complain a lot, but I don't think it's fair."
While Slovenia lost its consolation game against Lithuania today, the Canadian national team will square off against Serbia tomorrow at 4:30 a.m. in Manila, Phillippines.
