Phil Jackson On Carmelo Anthony: "He Has Every Chance to Be the MJ and Kobe of Our Offense"

Carmelo Anthony being mentioned in the same sentence as Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan? That's a first.

With a full season of the triangle offense under his belt and someoffseasonacquisitions, Carmelo Anthony is being looked upon to help the New York Knicks bounce back from their worst season in franchise history last year. There's a lot weighing on the 31-year-old's shoulders, but Knicks president Phil Jackson believes that Anthony is up to the task.

In an interview with ESPN's Charley Rosen, Jackson spoke highly of Anthony and even put him in the same sentence as his former pupils, Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. "Melo is a leader by example," he said, "not by exhorting his teammates. He's also very into the triangle, and with a better supporting cast he has every chance to be the MJ and Kobe of our offense."

Is The Zen Master saying that Anthony could become the go-to guy on offense a.k.a. the player he has been every year since donning the orange and blue? Or, is Phil alluding to Carmelo becoming something more than just the primary scorer? If you ask me a Knicks fan, it sounds like the Knickerbockers are destined for great things this year with Jackson at the helm, and a new and improved 'Melo on the court.

After all, with the 2015-16 season just around the corner, it's that time of the year again. The moment where you say to yourself that this year, we're getting that 'chip!
