The 10 Coolest Cars From the Bourne Movies

Robert Ludlum’s Jason Bourne novels spawned a fantastic set of action-packed feature films, including The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy, and The Bourne Ultimatum. With the release of The Bourne Legacy, longtime Bourne franchise veteran writer Tony Gilroy takes his first seat in the Bourne director’s chair. Aside from a sweet motorcycle scene in the trailer, we don’t know what kind of cool vehicular action his film holds, but if it’s anything like the past three, we’re on board. Check our list of some of the best and most memorable cars in the series.

Memorable Because: It’s a police-driven family sedan in a car chase in The Bourne Ultimatum

Actually Cool or Situationally Cool?: If you have to haul around a lot of people, we suppose it’s genuinely cool. If you’re on your own, you’d probably want something cooler, though.

Memorable Because: This is what Jason Bourne and Marie drove around in Goa until Russian assassins caught up with them.

Actually Cool or Situationally Cool?: Not cool enough. Marie died.

Memorable Because: Three got destroyed in a chase scene in The Bourne Supremacy

Actually Cool or Situationally Cool?: You’d think, with three involved, at least one of them would survive. But no. The E-Klasse is functional, but we’re not sure it really qualifies as “cool.”

Memorable Because: Big fight scene in The Bourne Identity occurred in this car. No, not the Matt Damon/Doug Liman one. The 1988 made-for-TV adaptation of The Bourne Identity.

Actually Cool or Situationally Cool?: We can’t think of a sturdier car to have a fight in. Mind you, we haven’t had fights in many cars. But the interior is as solid as it gets -- so much so that we think it would probably hurt quite a lot. This would be a cool car for a hit man. Perhaps less cool for anyone else.

Memorable Because: Jason Bourne steals it in The Bourne Supremacy.

Actually Cool or Situationally Cool?: The car is cool enough, but Bourne drives it like it’s his sainted grandmother’s, not like he just stole it. So you don’t get to see its coolness at all in the movie.

Memorable Because: Great car that, unfortunately, meets an untimely end in a chase scene in The Bourne Ultimatum

Actually Cool or Situationally Cool?: Genuinely cool, in that Teutonic sort of way. Put it this way: We were sad when it got destroyed.

Memorable Because: Mr. G-Wagen in The Bourne Supremacy also has this in his garage. And drives it. Not for very long, but long enough to let you know they’re both his.

Actually Cool or Situationally Cool?: Wait a second. This guy has both a 745i and a G-Wagen in his garage? When can we move in?

Memorable Because: It ran a good chase in The Bourne Supremacy, until a lowly Volga did it in

Actually Cool or Situationally Cool?: We’d be hard-pressed to find any truck that’s better than the Gelandewagen. Just look at it.

Memorable Because: Parisian police used this car to chase Jason Bourne in The Bourne Identity

Actually Cool or Situationally Cool?: The ZX was Citroën’s first attempt at a normal car, stepping away from its eternally quirky roots. For the time, it created a solidly built, well-handling car with lots of desirable features for buyers, including the Parisian police. As time went on, provided you took care of your ZX with regular maintenance, it proved to be a reliable car, too. While you knew no car was going to catch Bourne, the ZXs in the film did a pretty good job of keeping up. We’d say that makes it really and truly cool.

Memorable Because: The Paris chase scene is one of the standout parts of an already memorable movie.

Actually Cool or Situationally Cool?: Classic Minis are enduringly cool. It remains to be seen whether the newer BMW MINIs will retain that same classic appeal years down the line, but they do retain their value when owners try to sell them now. Perhaps Minis (and MINIs) will always be cool.
