In the wake of Brian Flores’ class action lawsuit against the NFL and several teams for their alleged racist hiring practices, another former Black coach has spoken out about his own experiences. Like Flores, former Cleveland Browns coach Hue Jackson seemed to imply that he too was offered money to lose games.
Jackson took to social media on Tuesday, shortly after news of Flores’ lawsuit broke, and responded to a tweet about the case by writing that Browns owner Jimmy Haslam was “happy” that “kept losing.”
When one Twitter user said that Haslam wasn’t paying him $100,000 like Flores claimed he was being offered by Dolphins owner Stephen Ross, Jackson rebutted by saying “it was a good number.”
Jackson also tweeted that he stands with Brian Flores and can “back up every word I’m saying.”
He also retweeted a suggestive message about the team tanking and still not making it to the Super Bowl, while their interstate rivals the Cincinnati Bengals play in the big game next week.
Flores’ lawsuit alleges racial discrimination in the process NFL teams use to hire coaches. Despite the suit, Flores maintains he still wants a job coaching in the NFL.
