#DeflateGate is one of the dumbest sports controversies in recent memory. Why? Well, for one thing, it's a completely hypocritical goose chase.
Back in January, as the media storm about this fiasco was just starting to kick up, we posted about Aaron Rodgers' tendency to overinflate the football. Here's the gist of it:
Crazy, right? However, no one pressed the issue any further, and the story seemingly died on the vine. Until, that is, Tom Brady's recent appeal hearing with the league, when NFLPA lawyer Jeffrey Kessler questioned NFL VP of Football Operations Troy Vincent about the matter. Here's the full transcript of their back-and-forth:
Uh, nope. You're wrong about that one, Troy. This was a pre-game comment. Not only that, it was also a total admission to altering a football that the NFL chose to ignore because...why? Was there not enough public outcry about it or something?
Whatever the case, it's yet another reminder of what a lame farce this entire saga is. Can we just start the season already?
