Rajon Rondo Signs One-Year Deal With Lakers

The day after LeBron joined the Lakers, Rajon Rondo signed a one-year deal with Los Angeles for a reported $9 million. They also renounced Julius Randle, making him an unrestricted free agent.

A day after they landed the biggest fish in the league, the Los Angeles Lakers are tinkering the roster that will surround their newest marketing dynamo, LeBron James. According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowksi, the team signed 32-year-old veteran point guard Rajon Rondo to a one-year deal on Monday, reportedly worth $9 million:

Rondo is coming off a season in which he played in 65 contests for the Pelicans, and put up modest but solid averages of 8.3 points, 8.2 assists, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game.

Not content with that relatively minor tinkering, the team also renounced Julius Randle, making him an unrestricted free agent in the process:

Turner Sports’ David Aldridge said that Randle, whom the Lakers took with the seventh overall pick out of Kentucky in 2014, wasn't really interested in remaining with the team:

Though that wasn't the consensus opinion, as Yahoo's Shams Charania said Randle was excited about the possibility of playing with LeBron just 24 hours ago:

Sources: Lakers restricted free agent Julius Randle hasn’t yet received an offer from L.A., but has excitement for arrival of LeBron James. Randle’s representatives and the Lakers are expected to speak Monday, hopeful of potential offer to retain him.

Randle played in all 82 of L.A.'s games last year. He had averages of 16.1 points, and 8.0 rebounds, per game. He's also still only 23-years-old.
