Though the first year into the Raiders' Jon Gruden experiment (Part II) has not gone well, that limited sample size won't stop the for-now-Oakland-based-team from hiring another prominent analyst to segue from a TV set to their front office. We say that because, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Raiders are expected to announce that NFL Network staple Mike Mayock will be their new general manager. In fact, that announcement may come as soon as Monday evening.

Raiders are hiring NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock as their general manager, league sources tell ESPN. The announcement will be made as early as today.

Schefter added that Mayock once interviewed for the same position when Al Davis was still in control of the team, and that he spent part of summer 2018 observing Gruden in action:

New Raiders’ GM Mike Mayock once interviewed and met with Al Davis for the same job he is getting now. Mayock spent part of last summer with the Raiders, observing Jon Gruden. Now will be working directly with him.

Anyway, despite Gruden's control over the team, the Raiders would seem to be in an intriguing position for an incoming GM as their 4-12 record will grant them the fourth overall pick, while they also have two other first-rounders from trades with the Cowboys and Bears. In addition to that they also have more than $75 million in cap room for free agents unafraid of joining a dysfunctional situation for the right price.
