For a brief moment there it looked like Kyrie Irving would not be making the move to the Boston Celtics. It has now been made official that he's been swapped to Beantown for Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic, the Nets' first-round pick (and now a 2020 second-round pick, too). And, because of that, Irving recorded a sincere goodbye to the only city he's played for thus far in his six-year NBA career.
In footage that he recorded using the social networking service Tout, Irving explained why he asked owner Dan Gilbert for a trade. "When you understand that the best intentions for you, and ultimately to be in your truth, and find out what you really want to do in your life, and how you want to accomplish it, that moment comes and you take full advantage of it," he said.
On top of that, he also stated in a manner that'd make a media relations pro proud, "There are no other ulterior reasons other than wanting to be happy and be somewhere where you feel like it’s an environment that’s conducive to you maximizing your potential as a human being and as a player perfecting your craft."
