Earlier today we found out that Floyd Mayweather is facing a multi-million dollar lawsuit, now we find out his opponent in the anti-climactic (and self-proclaimed) "Fight of the Century" is as well. That's because two fans banded together to fill out the paperwork for a $5 million dollar lawsuit against Pac-Man for his failure to inform the world's gamblers and pay-per-view purchasers of a shoulder injury before the fight (a.k.a. when it mattered) instead waiting until afterward. Pacquiao has previously stated that the Nevada Athletic Commission failed to give him a pain-killing shot before he entered the ring Saturday night.
Another legal bug up Manny's behind could come in the form of perjury charges, due to the fact that his adviser Michael Koncz checked "no" on a pre-fight evaluation form asking whether or not he had a shoulder injury. Koncz has said about the matter:
"Number one, Manny didn’t check the box. I checked it. It was just an inadvertent mistake. If I was trying to hide anything, would I have listed all the medications on the sheet that he intended to use? We weren’t trying to hide anything. I just don’t think I read the questionnaire correctly.”
That's unlikely to satisfy the demands of any person(s) adding their name to the suit, which says:
"Defendants prior to and at the time the plaintiffs and the class decided to purchase tickets; purchase pay per view showings or wagered on the event the defendants knew and had full knowledge and information that defendant Pacquiao had been seriously injured and was suffering from a torn rotator cuff. Defendants further know that such injury would severely affect his performance."
The lawyer for the plaintiffs refused to comment, but the lawyer for Manny's promotional company Top Rank believes the suit will be dismissed due to frivolity, citing the legal precedent of: tough shit, you're out 100 bucks, get the fuck over it.
