A few weeks ago we had an incredibly rare sight when something entertaining actually went down at the ESPYs or, more accurately, the ESPYs red carpet. That was the site where Big Show challenged Shaq to a match at next year's WrestleMania 33, something the two freakishly large human beings have been teasing at since a feud between them sprouted up sometime around 2009.
It was unclear whether or not the ESPYs challenge was an official announcement of the match. But, thankfully, we have finally gotten confirmation of it in the form of an interview Big Show gave to the Shanghai Daily.
The former WWE champion first talked about his impending retirement, as his career sits in its twilight, so enjoy him while you still can:
"I’ve had a 21-year career. I’m looking forward to retirement actually. It’d be nice to actually see my family. I’ve earned my limited schedule and now it’s the twilight for me. I get to do media, talk to fans, and tour the world and go out with a nice casual wave goodbye; and I’m happy with that."
Then he pivoted to the match against Shaq that will, coincidentally(?), take place in Orlando:
“We’ll have one heck of a match and we’ll see what’s up. We’ll give the fans a treat.”
Shaq previously appeared at WrestleMania 32's Andre the Giant Battle Royal, where he and Big Show faced off in an extremely brief cameo. Afterward big Diesel challenged him to a match backstage.
You can check out their fight next year, which should give you time to save up your PPV dollars, as it won't go down until April 2.
