Former Super Bowl MVP and Patriots superstar, Julian Edelman, was arrested on Saturday for allegedly jumping on the hood of a Mercedes, TMZ reports

The situation appears to have been unprovoked according to police sources who tell TMZ that Edelman was walking through Beverly Hills at around 9 p.m. when he decided that he wanted to jump on someone else's Benz. As one might expect, the 198-pound wide receiver's impact caused damage to the vehicle.

Edelman might have gotten away with the crime if police weren't already in the area investigating a robbery. A witnesse reportedly flagged down the authorities and told them what they had seen. Edelman was arrested, cited for misdemeanor vandalism, then released to his friends, the report says. It's possible that he was drunk when he decided to jump on the car, as TMZ's sources say that Edelman had been drinking prior to the incident. Now, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office gets to decide whether or not Edelman will go to court. But per TMZ, it's possible he could avoid any criminal punishment if he works out a deal with the car's owner.

Edelman appears to have been out with Danny Amendola Paul Piece, who posted a photo of them together on Instagram on Saturday night, and commented "minutes before he was arrested."

There's also video of them partying together.

Sure looks like Edelman was hanging with Paul Pierce after being released by police. This video was posted around 11 pm; TMZ reports Edelman was arrested around 9 pm pic.twitter.com/AHxBkr3xed

Edelman and the Pats' season ended last week when they were upset by the Tennessee Titans. He was a bright spot for New England's struggling receiving core, and finished the year with 100 receptions for 1117 yards. Of these 100 catches, six of them came on scoring plays.
