Back in 2015, Reggie Bush fell on a strip of exposed concrete behind the visiting team's bench at Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis and suffered a season-ending knee injury. Calling the strip a "concrete ring of death," Bush sued the team in 2016, claiming the Rams were negligent for the dangerous conditions that led to his torn lateral meniscus.
On Tuesday, a St. Louis jury ordered the Rams—who now play in Los Angeles—to pay Bush $4.95 million compensatory damages and $7.5 million in punitive damages. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the jury found the Rams to be 100 percent liable for Bush's injury.
"I'm very happy with the verdict," Bush said after the decision was announced. "The people spoke and decided very fairly."
Bush's claim was reportedly centered around the fact that the injury hurt his future earning potential. He played one additional year for the Buffalo Bills after the injury, before retiring in 2017. He was also adamant that the lawsuit was intended to help future player safety.
The concrete patch at Edward Jones Dome is now covered by a softer slip resistant surface.
